HOW MATHEMATICS IS USEFUL IN DAILY LIFE?
The students usually ask importance of mathematics. Math is an essential part of the World. Math is everywhere – engineering, science, and technology. Scientists and engineers can’t do anything without Mathematics. Many feel math hard but very interesting if you start enjoying the learning process.
Definition of Mathematics:
Mathematics is a study of numbers, shapes and patterns. It helps us understand the world and provides an effective way of building mental discipline.
Math encourages logical reasoning, critical thinking, creative thinking, abstract thinking, problem-solving ability, and even effective communication skills.
Archimedes is known as the Father of Mathematics .
Advantages of Mathematics :
- Math is fun. The pleasure of getting the right answer to a difficult problems.
- Math trains the mind.
- Help us in selling/trading.
- Math is a tool for decision making.
- Math helps you with your finances.
Do we need mathematics everyday?
Math is important in our lives and without realizing it, we use mathematical concepts, as well as the skills we learn from doing maths problems, everyday.
Why math is a difficult / hard subject?
Math is a very abstract subject. For students, learning usually happens best when they can relate it to real life. As math becomes more advanced and challenging, many students find themselves needing to work harder and practice longer to understand math concepts.
How it is useful in daily life ?
Budget refers to estimated statement. It is defined as a financial and / or quantitative statement. In our daily life we maintain one dairy for monthly budget which shows income and expenses. Through this maintenance we can come to know our monthly budget. So, here also we need some calculations.
Construction Purpose :
Architects use mathematics for several reasons. Firstly they use geometry because it defines the spatial form of a building. Construction math is required to convert measurements to allow for the ordering, cutting and construction of raw materials into the finished projects that we see all around us. For eg : they measure the area, volume, length, and width.
Fitness and Training :
We set our routine according to our workout schedule, count the number of repetitions while exercising. And when we start dieting plan we thinking about calories. These things all based on maths.
Shopping at Grocery Stores and Malls :
The place where you would see the application of basic mathematical concept is your neighborhood grocery store and supermarket. The offers like “Discount at 70%”, “Buy one get one free”, etc., are seen on most of stores and malls. Customers visit the stores, see the such offers, estimate the quantity to be bought, the price per unit, discount calculations, the weight of the items, and finally the total price of the product and buy it. Thus here also we are using mathematics calculations which is important part of our daily routine.
Cooking and Baking :
People use math knowledge when cooking. For example, it is very common to use a half or double of a recipe here people use proportions and ratios to make correct calculations for each ingredient. If recipe needs 4:1 combination then we doing correct measurement then we preparing dish. So, here also we using mathematics.
Time Management :
Time math explores the concept of telling time into seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months & years. Finding time here we use math solutions by adding and subtracting to find the amount of time passed or by multiplying or dividing to convert units of time. So, here also we are using it for our daily life to lead.
When you travel, math comes along for the ride-from estimating the amount of fuel you will need to planning out a trip based on miles per hour and distance traveled.Calculating fuel usage is crucial to long distance travel. Without it, you may find yourself stuck without gas or on the road for much longer. You may also use math throughout the trip by paying for tolls, counting exit numbers, checking tire pressure, etc.
Long before GPS and Google Maps, people used atlases, paper road maps, road signs, or verbal directions to navigate throughout the country’s highways and byways. If you’re a teacher, you can show students how to use their math skills for reading maps.
Computer Applications :
The most important thing in Computer Applications for Encoding and Decoding we use Binary numbers i.e.,0 & 1 with this combination of numbers it is going to save in memory.
Discrete Mathematics is the Foundation of Computer Applications. Ever heard of Logic Notation, Set Theory, Permutations & Combinations, Graph Theory, Probability, Number Theory, Algebra, etc. Don’t be overwhelmed, these are all a part of Discrete Mathematics and also a basic foundation for Programming and Computer Science (And that means you need to study these for Computer Science!!!).A Boolean Algebra is used in Logic Gates, Relational Algebra is used in Databases
Number sense and a facility with mathematical concepts is especially useful in banking. We use math for budgeting, spending, saving, and investing. We are using mathematical concepts everyday when we utilize online banking to help us pay bills, transfer money, and manage our personal accounts.
As gardening requires a basic math skill. If you need to plant or sow new seeds or seedlings you need to make a row or column or count them out or even make holes. So even without thinking you are doing math. Measuring skills is always needed, and calculations of the essence when doing something new in the garden.
